Viewpoint Luncheon: Milwaukee County Transit and the Wheel Tax

Amid warnings that the finances of the Milwaukee County Transit System are worsening and the County's overall budget gap is growing, voters will be asked this April to weigh in on a $60 vehicle registration fee as part of the solution. Is such a "wheel tax" warranted, and what are the consequences if it's rejected? Why are transit farebox revenues declining, and does that suggest the need for greater or reduced public funding? Can we afford investments in modernized transit that other cities are making, or should we be asking if we can afford not to make such investments?

Join the Public Policy Forum at a Viewpoint Luncheon that will explore transit's future in the context of the County's financial challenges and the upcoming wheel tax referendum. We'll begin with a brief presentation on County finances, and then hear from a panel of County elected leaders:

Chris Abele, Milwaukee County Executive
Deanna Alexander, Milwaukee County Supervisor
Theodore Lipscomb, Sr., Milwaukee County Board Chairman
Scott Manske, Milwaukee County Comptroller

Moderated by Forum President Rob Henken
